Overview

This programs is evidence based designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be able to monitor community health by identifying health needs, implementing policies that promote, evaluate health services and eliminating health disparities.
Graduates will gain the ability to evaluate and analyze the current challenges confronting public health and the provision of health service delivery. The knowledge to engage in policy debates about global and international health, and respond to the challenge of the widening health disparities that exist within communities and between countries An understanding of the role of public health practitioners play as the advocates for change in public health and of the strengthens and weaknesses of the differing approaches to health care systems. The ability to evaluate the quality and the performance of health care systems and understand the various multi-agency approaches along with their advantages and disadvantages

Graduates will gain:
• The ability to evaluate and analyze the current challenges confronting public health and the provision of health services.
• The knowledge to engage in policy debates about global and international health, and respond to the challenge of the widening health disparities that exist within communities and between countries
• An understanding of the role public health practitioners play as advocates for change in public health and of the strengths and weaknesses of differing approaches to healthcare systems.
• The ability to evaluate the quality and performance of healthcare systems and understand the various multi-agency approaches, along with their advantages and disadvantages.

Career opportunities

BSc. Public Health graduates can work in a number of areas in all sectors which include the private sector, public sector as well as civil society. In the public sector they may work within a relevant ministry, a government health organization, hospital or within the community.

In the private sector they may work as researchers, policy analysts or practitioners for medical, pharmaceutical or health insurance companies.

In civil society there is a huge need for public health graduates to work as managers and implementers of NGO health programs, health information analysts, health educators, policy analysts and links to the other sectors.

Within the educational field there is a need for public health educators and researchers to join the universities, professional bodies and other educational institutions.
